Read drive size, fastening and removal torque, modes, battery conditions, and bare-tool or kit suffixes without treating unlike claims as equal.

Start with the exact tool and package model

Impact-wrench listings often combine a core tool number with a package suffix. DeWalt's DCF921B is the tool-only model, while DCF921P2 is a kit with the DCF921 impact wrench, two DCB205 batteries, a DCB115 charger, bag and belt clip [1]. Makita XWT17Z is the tool in the XWT17T battery kit [2]. Milwaukee 2962-20 is the tool in the 2962-22 kit [5]. These packages are related, but their SKUs and included contents are not interchangeable.

Fastening and removal torque answer different questions

Fastening torque describes a tightening claim. Breakaway or nut-busting torque describes a removal claim under the manufacturer's stated test conditions. The larger removal number cannot be substituted for fastening torque, and neither is a promise that every fastener will reach that value. Milwaukee's 2962 manual says torque varies with battery charge and size, impacting time, bolt size and other factors [7]. Compare like metric to like metric and preserve every stated condition.

Battery conditions and modes belong with the number

Milwaukee's 2967-20 claims up to 1,200 ft-lb fastening and 1,600 ft-lb nut-busting specifically when paired with an M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE battery [6]. It would be misleading to publish those as battery-independent ratings. Mode counts also describe control options, not a normalized power scale: DCF921 uses four settings [1], while XWT08Z uses three speed selections [3]. Read the per-mode table rather than comparing the count alone.

Drive size and anvil type are selection filters

A 3/8-inch square drive such as Milwaukee 2562-20 and a 1/2-inch drive such as the other examples accept sockets with different square-drive interfaces; crossing between those interfaces requires an appropriate adapter. Hog-ring and friction-ring descriptions refer to socket retention. They do not establish torque class by themselves. Confirm the exact anvil variant, socket rating and clearance before comparing power figures.

Use an impact wrench as an impact wrench

An impact wrench is not a calibrated final-tightening instrument. Milwaukee's operator manual instructs users to check the desired torque with a torque wrench [7]. Follow the fastener, vehicle or equipment maker's procedure. Etrenank does not rank these tools as universally best because size, drive, package, platform, battery condition and required torque range describe different jobs.
